Cinnamon --replace (Manjaro Cinnamon)
#1
Hi,

I've got a situation that just seems to have started.  A process called "cinnamon --replace" is SUCKING up my cpu's.  It is causing youtube videos to break up.  I rolled back to a few days ago with timeshift and it seemed to have fixed it but it's back.  I was wondering if anyone else has seen this problem.  I'm about to change to a different DE but really don't want to.

Thanks in advance,
Paul

Update:  Installed Manjaro - MATE.  I would still like it greatly if someone may know of a fix for the problem.  I would rather be on Cinnamon.  Thanks again!

That sounds like Cinnamon is trying to restart for some reason and getting hung up.

"What is the cinnamon --replace process doing? – Seanny123

@Seanny123 - restarts cinnamon but replaces the current one with a new one. – slm

ah, so the process [got] stuck trying to replace the existing cinnamon instance, which was causing the freeze, which is why I needed to kill it? – Seanny123

@Seanny123 - cinnamon is hung up, the replace triggers a restart but leaves all the subsequent "child" bits alone. – slm"

If someone here more familiar with Manjaro / Cinnamon doesn't offer you some suggestions soon, try the official LM or Manjaro forums.

Linux Mint 19.2 final stable release is almost out, which features Cinnamon 4.2.x. Not sure when that will filter down to Manjaro Cinnamon stable release.

Thanks for the reply...  I am going to dual boot with Mint and see if the same problem exists there.  If not then I can be sure it's Manjaro's implementation and I can to the people who are maintaining it for Manjaro.  I appreciate all the suggestions and I'll keep posting what I find out.

I should have explicitly stated for anyone else reading this that (to the best of my knowledge) the Cinnamon desktop environment is one of the community supported DEs for Manjaro and not an "officially" supported DE.
