CYA restore
#1
using a junk computer to try Joe's backup and restore of a system before I really need it on main box.
have CYA and XBT backup external drive OK.
used XBT the restore
used  a Live boot (usb stick)
copied recovery.sh and cya to Live Desktop
a few tries to run recovery.sh right ; but when I run CYA it keeps telling me program not found.
Watched joe's video and read docs how-to on his website.
now Exactly how to run recovery.sh and cya ; where to put it/permissions  etc.?
Some Fine detail i'm missing here !

CYA doesn't restore from an external drive.  It was designed to restore files from the home directory (/home/cya/) that should be mounted as /mnt/cya/home/cya/.

Boot Live Env. with SAME linux Version ... eg.
 linux mint 19 Tara
mint@mint:~$ cd /media/mint/Home-HardDrive/cya/
./recovery.sh
this runs:
sudo /mnt/cya/home/cya/cya restore  automatically
it asks restore Questions
reboot when done.
All seems good. Copy's all files over.
mint Logo appears
It boots up and shows prompt hit any key to continue but some text is cut off.
Shows Busybox v1.27.2 (Ubuntu 1.:1.27.2ubuntu3) built-in shell (ash)
it displays :
Enter help for commands
show this prompt:

This is usually caused by a filesystem issue.  CYA backups files but it will backup corrupt files which is why having multiple restore points is important.  Also CYA can't protect against underlying filesystem and/or hardware issues.

Before attempting these fixes make sure you have backup copies of all important files.  Data loss may occur!

You need to fsck on the filesystem.  There are two ways to do this:

1) Method One: The safest way

You need to reboot the machine using a live method.  Then run fsck on the root partition.  For example let's say that is /dev/sda1

shell> fsck -f -V /dev/sda1

Once done simply reboot as normal and odds are high you'll boot back into the desktop.

2) Method Two: Not as safe

You may attempt to fix the error at the initramfs prompt.

A) Type exit at the initramfs prompt

shell> exit

B) You should see a message that says file system with errors.  There will be a path in front of it. You should note that path (probably starts with /dev/mapper)

C) Now run fsck on that filesystem

shell> fsck /dev/mapper/mint--root -y

Once done type in reboot to restart the system and it probably will go into desktop mode.

shell> reboot

Thank you so much for the help, I have mixed results with CYA Restore. But I'm practicing on a junk machine, need to get more grounded on the cmd. line. Like CYA but find Timeshift more reliable for me atm. Love to study code and practice , how we learn Wink keep the code coming .Btw my birthday is next Wed. I'll be 73 . Whoot !
