[SOLVED] Linux on a HP EliteBook Folio 1040 G1
#1
Edit:

Never mind, dualboot worked.
If you want to run Mint on VirtualBox, check this page (https://www.linuxmint.com/rel_tricia_cinnamon.php)

Hello!

I wanted to run Linux on my HP EliteBook Folio 1040 G1. I tried to use Linux Mint in VirtualBox. I tried both the 32 and 64-bit images. After selecting "Start Linux Mint", it gave me a black screen with a blinking cursor (though I couldn't type anything). It also happened when I used a Live USB.

Here are the stats:

Manufacturer: Helwett-Packard
Product Name: HP EliteBook Folio 1040 G1
Current System BIOS Version: L83 Ver. 01.42
Current BIOS Relase Date 07/29/2018
Video BIOS Revision INTEL 1040
Keyboard Controller Revision: 24.2E
Processor Type: Intel® Core™ i7-4600U CPU
MicroCode Revision: 24
Processor Speed: 2.10GHz
Total Memory Size: 8192 MB RAM

Other Edit:

I can run Debian on VirtualBox, but Mint still doesn't work.

Yet another edit:

Ubuntu works with the minimal disc image.

I no idea how to solve your problem. Sorry.

Why fight the Virtual Box?
just install it alongside what you have now.

I have a few "similar" HP EliteBooks... multi boot is so much easier.

I can't run the installer though.

1. Have you went into the bios and turned on virtualization because
2. HP has it turned off by default on a notebook because they reccommend you do not use it on a notebook.

Thanks a lot! Now I can run Debian on VirtualBox. Smile I still can't run Mint and Ubuntu though Sad
