Ubuntu Mate 18.04 Upgrade in place to 20.04

Is it possible to move from Mate 18.04 LTS to Ubuntu 20.04 Gnome desktop (standard distro)? I am mainly interested in keeping my file structure (and files) without a format of drive structure. I am ready to leave the Mate GUI, and upgrade at the same time to the standard distro for 20.04, which I understand is Gnome.
