Distrohoppers, assemble! DE experiences on different distros

One, my hat's off to you if you can make Mutter run under KDE, or make KWin run under GNOME.

The first one will be possible. Mutter can be run stand-alone and KDE can be configured to
use a different WM instead of kwin. The second one is a bit trickier since GNOME is rather
integrated, but I have seen people using external WMs with GNOME, so it should be possible.

Two, I am getting the feeling that this is another "To systemd, or not to systemd" kind of debate, at least from that point of view. Honestly, I find that systemd best suits me, just like Wayland.

Maybe. Maybe not. I am just saying that Wayland isn't automatically better just because it is newer.
And its anti-modularity design is a huge drawback in my opinion.

Speaking about system-d: Yes it works and it is without doubt quite powerfull, but I prefer something
simple like voids 'runit', where a service can be simple shell script.

EDIT: Also, I've now switched to Gentoo.
